The parrot is a very old and traditional symbol used by the Pueblo Indians for centuries. Trade routes between current day New Mexico and Mexico / South America were used long ago by traders, Padres and Natives. The colorful and bright parrot feathers were coveted and prized for the use in Pueblo costumes and adornments. Ancient murals depict parrots dating back to and prior to Anasazi times
